August meeting

  The August meeting was held on the 7th. We continued to discuss the annual fundraiseing ad book. All ads will need to be turnned in at the September meeting. Also, we voted in 3 new members
April Meeting

  At out April meeting, we present Fred Smith with the Tom Downing Award. The Tom Downing award is the highest award a member can received in Ruritan. Fred is the first member of our club to received this award
May Meetin

  At our May meeting we put the final touches on the $1,000 give-away.
June Meeting

Ararat Ruritans Donate $900 To Ararat Fire Departm

  The Ararat Ruritan Club recently donated a total of $900 to the Ararat Volunteer Fire Department, Ararat Rescue Squad and the Blue Ridge Rescue Squad located on Willis Gap Road.
The Ararat Ruritan Club yearly donates to these groups charged with public safety within our community
Minutes For February 2008 Meeting

  Minutes for the February Ararat Ruritan Meeting


The Ararat Ruritan club met February 7, 2008 with 27 in attendance
including two guest.

Our special guest was Glenn King of Woolwine who did a very interesting
presentation on the Scottish Highland Games. He announced the 1st
annual Laurel Hill Highland Games and Festival would be held April 26,
2008, at Laurel Hill "The J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace".

On old business Will Smith was voted in as a youth member.

In new business a motion was make and seconded to donate $4oo to the
local fire department and $200 to each of the local rescue squads.

The club also voted to purchase 15 Rudy Bears to be given to these same
departments.

The odor in the kitchen was discussed and Terry Smith is to install a
trap in the drain at the kitchen sink.

Ceiling fans were discussed and it was suggested we look into using
portable fans. Terry Smith is to check into the price of these.

The Tom Downing Award was discussed. A motion was make and seconded
that we present this award. A committee make up of Mike, Kevin, and Laz
was appointed to nominate a person to receive this award.

Kelly was granted permission to proceed with giving the piano to
Habitat.

A zone meeting and officers' training session was discussed to be held
at Ararat on Saturday, February 23, 2008, from 9 until 10 A.M. A
motion was made and seconded that we host this meeting.

The meeting was adjourned to meet on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 7 P.M.

November Meeting

  National Director, Donald Worrell was our guest speaker for the Nov. meeting. Mr. Worrell presented the club with a check of $100 for having an increase in membership of over 15%. Mt Worrell will be out National Vice-President next year. The club had very successful Bar-B-Q this year. We sold over 300 plates.
Dec Meeting

  We held our annual Christmas parting on Dec 6. Our Christmas party takes the place of the December meeting. We are looking forward to have another successful year in 2008.
October Meeting

  The October meeting was held on Oct. 4. After a wonderful meal, the items of business discussed were the Candidates night schedule for Oct 16. All six candidates for the offices of Sheriff and Commonwealth attroney will be speaking. Also, the 20 annual Ruritan Bar-B-Q will be on Oct 27. Guest speaker was Dean Crews, District Gov. of the Dan River District. Dean discussed the numerous problems of the Dan River district. Tom Perry will be on hand at the Ruritan Bar-B Q with his new book.
Sept Meeting

  At the September meeting the Ruritans discussed the upcoming Candidates Night scheduled for Oct. 16. Finishing touches were put on the Ad Book and it was sent to the printers. Danny Smith, candidate for sheriff, was the guest speaker.
Aug. Meeting

  At the August meeting the club continued to go over and discuss the Ad Book promoting this year's Bar-B-Q. The Ruritan national Convention was talked about. This years convention is in Nashville, TN. We welcomed Chuck Shepard in a a new member of the club.
July Meeting

  At the July meeting our Ad Book Fundraiser was discussed. Ads were assigned and as always we are looking for new ads in our book. Our ad book helps promote our Bar B Q in Ocetober.
Feb. meeting

  The AraratRuritan Club held thier second meeting of 2007 on Feb. 8 at 7:00 PM. A wonderful meal was prepared by Maxine Smith, Margaret Noonkester, and June Martin.

During the business session the club voted Maxine Smith, Margaret Noonkester, and June Martin in as new members. The club discussed donations to the local fire department and resecue squads. The club voted to purchase 10 Ruritan Rudy Bears and donated them to the Patrick County Sheriff's department. Also, the club challenged the other Ruritan clubs in Patrick County to match this donation. A $100.00 donation was voted on for the new Ruritan National sign in Dublin, VA.

The guest speaker, Tom Perry, provide the program. Tom discussed some of the history of Ararat, which included Jeb Stuart and the Dinky Railroad. You can check Tom's web site at thefreestateofpatrick.com.

The Guest speaker for the March meeting will be Patrick County Sheriff, David Hubbard.
