March meeting

  The committees were called upon to give reports, the public service committee
Has the food drive to start and the environment committee has the trash pick up
Day planned.

The blinds were discussed and it was agreed to purchase “good quality dark blinds” if they could be purchased for around $20.00

A cleanup date for the club is set for 28th March at 9oclock am if the club is not rented.

It was agreed to by 40 chairs.

New cabinets for the fridge wall in the kitchen were discussed and prices given, per the drawing shown. It was approved to build the cabinets for the material cost of $1,173 with Patrick’s cabinet shop providing all the labor to build and install at no cost to the club.

It was agreed to open the lawn up for bids to be mowed two times per month.

The food bank was given 33 dollars.

The fire and rescue squads were presented their checks, present to accept were-
Gary Nester-Ararat Rescue Squad
Bill Kerley -Ararat Rescue Squad
Wilford Marshall-Blue Ridge Rescue Squad

Bill Kerley gave a briefing on the EMT’s that were trained in our area.

Lauren Slate was brought before the club for membership and approved.
Jan. 09 meeting

  The Ararat Ruritan club met January 8th, 2009
Zone Governor Charles Bowman was introduced as the guest speaker for the evening.
He presented the club with 4 awards:
Citizenship and Patriotism
Social Development
Public Service
Business and Professions
As well as a certificate of appreciation from Hunters for The Hungry.

Mr. Bowman informed us the district convention will be held in Henry County on
Nov. 7th an exact time was not given except morning to afternoon. There was no date or time set for the Feb. zone meeting as of yet.
There was a change in incentives to clubs for membership increases. If a 15% increase is held for at least 90 days $100 will be given to the club.
We were also told the High Road Book is almost complete, as well as discussions on the news letter. The club needs to turn in what it would like in the news letter well in advance.Our county did have the 2nd highest membership with the 2nd highest growth in the district with 6 new members. In closing Mr. Bowman also commended our club on our dances. He noted our turnout as well as our news/advertisement coverage on the dances
Feb 09 Meeting

  The Ararat Ruritan Club me February 5, 2009
It was agreed to fund the scholarships again this year.

A motion was made and 2nd that we have a dance for The Relay for Life,
No date was set, but it was possible that a Friday date be chosen.

The food bank was discussed and it was decided Kelly could take care of the food donations, as well as a possibility of putting out fliers to promote it.
The food drive was to remain open all year.

A motion was made and approved to donate the clubs part of the 50/50 to the relay for life.
The Club agreed to donate $400 to the Ararat Fire Dept. Along with $200 to each rescue squad.

It was approved to purchase chairs if we could buy for under $20 a piece, Approval was also given for new blind purchases.

A club cleanup date was brought up with the date to be set at the next meeting.

A reminder was given that everyone will pay dues this year, $50 per year for regular members and $15 for kids. Members can pay per quarter instead of one lump sum.

The Tom Downing Award was approved; Kevin, Merlin, and Fred were put on the committee.
It was also approved to give a $50 memorial in memory of Vance Ayers to Unity Church.
